About the Nelson Cat Hotel
At Nelson Cat Hotel, we’re more than just a boarding facility — we’re a family-run, vet-supervised home away from home for your feline companions.
Tucked beside a peaceful farm at the top of Somerset Terrace, our location offers the perfect blend of convenience and calm — just minutes from the airport, yet free from traffic or industrial noise. Cats enjoy a truly low-stress environment where they can relax, and be entertained by the sights of birds, horses, cattle, sheep, and other wildlife between cuddle time and play.
Dr. Melanie Zwiener
Melanie is a licensed veterinarian with over 20 years’ experience. While she doesn’t provide veterinary procedures through the cattery directly, we offer access to the full range of veterinary services—either on-site as a formal house call or at Nelson Vet Clinic, where she practises. Her expertise ensures professional care protocols are followed, and any treatment needed is delivered quickly and safely.
Melanie’s passion for feline health is what makes our cat hotel unique. Whether it’s a healthy, elderly, or medically fragile cat, she provides the professional attention and compassion they need.
Michael Zwiener
Michael Zwiener has been a lifelong advocate for cat welfare and protection. From growing up with cats to fostering and caring for those in need, his commitment runs deep. Michael actively volunteers at the SPCA in Nelson and continues to expand his knowledge through formal training, including the NZ Certificate in Cat Welfare (ANCN6015).
At Nelson Cat Hotel, he’s turning decades of passion into purpose—creating a place where every cat, including those with special needs, receives personalised, loving care. With a background in IT, paramedicine, and management, Michael ensures every detail runs smoothly, and every cat is safe, calm, and well looked after.
